How to create detailed battery report of your notebook

When you use a notebook computer and its main focus is mobility, one of the things to watch out for is battery health, which, over time or through misuse, can begin to deteriorate. In addition to just taking the measurement to the eye of the duration of its battery, it is always good to consult system data, as in Windows 10 to have access to relevant information.

In addition to the default settings offered in the Microsoft System Settings menus, Windows 10 also performs a full battery report in the background but is not visible to your users. Here’s how to access this report from your notebook battery to find out what her health status is:

The trick shown below is only a function of Windows, which does not make any changes to power plans or any other Windows configuration, but only data on the use of the computer. However, in order for it to be realized it is necessary to have an account with administrator privileges.

Getting the report

Before checking your computer’s battery report, you need to generate it, since Windows does not make it available by conventional means for viewing at any time. Check out:

  1. Open the start menu and look for the “Command prompt”. Right-click on it and run it as administrator;
  2. In the Command Prompt window, perform this action: powercfg / batteryreport / output “C: \ batteryreport.html”;
  3. When you receive the message that the report is ready, close the command prompt.

Note that above was set for the report file to be saved in the root of the C: drive, but this path can be changed to any place of your preference.

Reading the report

By default, the best format for storing this report is HTML, which can be opened by any browser. So the next step is to access the folder where the report was saved and open the file with a program for this type such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera or others.

Although the standard report is in English, you can identify some important information without difficulty, such as how many cycles the battery has already passed. This actually refers to how many times it has already been charged, remembering that each battery has a maximum cycle, and when this limit is reached, it may not work as well.

Going a little further down the report, another important fact is the battery capacity history. Note that the right column tells you its maximum load, while the left column tells you the maximum value you could load. In other words, if you leave the notebook battery fully charged and the maximum value is not reached, the battery life of the computer is decreasing.
