Youtube will now give you more control over the recommended videos

Youtube is doing more to put you in the “driver’s seat” of your “car”. Google has announced changes to give you not only more control over what appears on your homepage, but also the suggestions of what to see next.

In a blog post, three changes were announced that will begin to reach users in the coming days. From now on you’ll be able to explore topics, remove suggestions from channels you do not want to see, and see why a video is suggested to you.

Related topics and videos on your Home Page and videos “Next”

The idea of this change is that you can explore topics and videos related to what you are seeing more easily. Examples are numerous, ranging from topics such as “cooking” (food), or your favorite genre (eg Indie Rock).

These are options based on your existing custom suggestions and should help you find your preferred content more easily. These can be videos related to what you are watching, published by the same channel, or other topics that may be of interest to you.

Remove suggestions from channels you do not want to see

Youtube wants to give you more control when you fail a suggestion. Whether it’s Home or “Next” by tapping the three dots next to the video title, it will bring you the “do not recommend channel” option. The idea is that from here you will not see content from this source.

You will continue to watch videos from the channel in question if you subscribe or search for it. This is a feature that Google claims will be available for Android and iOS over the next few hours.

Why video should be suggested

Sometimes Youtube suggests you videos that other users with interests similar to yours have seen or liked. From now on, the platform will provide a message below this video explaining why these videos appear on the homepage.

The new features look quite promising, however, everything will have to be experienced in actual usage. Youtube suggestions do not always please us, and hopefully, these new measures will help improve the content we want to see.
