Jio and other networks have banned porn websites in India: Here’s why

On the network of Reliance Jio, some porn websites have been banned. Although no official statement has been issued on behalf of Jio, but some users complain that websites related to porn on the Geo Network are not open. This has been done after the order of the government.

Block after the order of Uttarakhand High Court

  • According to the news agency, the Uttarakhand High Court had ordered the ban on 857 websites showing adult content on September 28. In this order it was said that if telecom companies do not block the porn website from their network, their licenses can be cancelled.
  • After the High Court order, the Telecom Department (DoT) ordered all Internet Service Providers to block websites showing adult content on their network.

More companies can do bans

  • While implementing the order of the telecom department, Jio has blocked the porn website on its network, but soon the rest of the telecom companies can do the same. Because the government has ordered all telecom companies to block them.

Order was issued three years ago

  • Three years ago, on July 31, 2015, the Ministry of Electronics and IT issued a similar order and ordered the telecom department to block 857 porn websites.
  • However, on August 4, 2015, the telecom department issued a new order, replacing this order, which states that Internet Service Providers are free to block these 857 websites, which do not have content related to child pornography.

The number of porn viewers with cheap data increased by 121%

  • Porn website Pornhub released some figures last year, according to which 2013-2017, the number of porn viewers in India has increased by 121%, which is the highest in any country.
  • According to Pornhub, this happened because data is available at low cost in India. Although Pornhub did not take the name of Reliance Jio in his report, but at the time, Jio was giving cheap data.
  • At the same time, Video Intelligence Platform Vidooly also released a report in June 2017, 9 months after Launching of Jio (September 2016). It has been reported that in just 9 months, there was an increase in traffic to adult video content in India by up to 75%.

Ban on porn in India, but no stop on watching

  • There is absolutely ban on porn in India and that is why there is no porn star here. But there is no restriction on watching porn in India. However viewing or sharing of child pornographic content is illegal.
  • If you are watching porn in the house then there is no restriction on this. According to the cyber expert, this is because if pornography is legal in a country and the website there is being seen in India, then it will not come into Indian law.
