How to take screenshots on MacOS Mojave

The new Mac OS 10.14 Mojave reshaped the Screenshot function on the Mac, which was always very complicated and involved a combination of little-known shortcuts. Now, it’s easier to capture and edit screenshots of the system, either by cutting them or by adding additional elements like arrows, for example.

Once you learn, the process of taking print on Mac becomes easy and intuitive, even more so with the new features that MacOS 10.14 Mojave introduced in the screenshots. Here’s how to get or edit print, and change where they’re saved:

How to take a screenshot on Mac

To take a screenshot on Mac, you need to know the screenshot shortcuts. These are:

• Shift + Command (⌘) + 3 : captures entire screen;
• Shift + Command (⌘) + 4 : captures a part of the screen. After pressing, click and drag the cursor to select an area;
• Shift + Command (⌘) + 4 + Space: after pressing the Shift + Command + 4, press the spacebar to capture a window;
• Shift + Command (⌘) + 6 : Print strip of the Touch Bar ( MacBook Pro 2016 or higher);

In any of these shortcuts, you can also press Control to copy the print to the clipboard (it will not be saved on the desktop); and/or Option to remove the leftovers that remain when you print from a window.

How to edit print on Mac (Mojave macOS)

In Mac OS 10.14 Mojave, the print is saved in the lower right corner of the screen for a few seconds, as shown in the image below:

Before it can be saved to the desktop, you can click on the print to edit it:

For example, you can scribble the print with two different pens, insert geometric shapes, text, signatures or photos, change the thickness or color of the stroke, rotate the image to the right or left and cut it. After editing, it gets back to the desktop.

Changing the Location of Prints on Mac

If you do not like the prints to be saved on the Desktop, you can change the location by following the steps below:

1. Go to Applications> Utilities and open Terminal;
2. Enter the command  to save the prints in the images folder (example);defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Pictures
3. If you want, you can also create a folder called Printsor Screenshotswithin the images folder to save the prints;
4. If you want to follow with step 3, the command would look like this: defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Pictures/Prints;
5. When finished, type killall SystemUIServerto save;

Ready! Now the location of the prints has been changed to the folder you want. The ~ / command is for saving inside your user’s folder, which contains Images, Documents, among others. To save back to the desktop, just type defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Desktop. Be sure to follow step 5 again to save your changes.
