To do this:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the Xbox One console.
  • Wait about ten seconds
  • Plug the power cord back into the console.
  • Press the Xbox Connect button in front of the console.

If the console powers up, the reboot solution worked. You can do this if the problem repeats itself in the future.

To do this:

  • Press the Xbox Connect button in front of the console.
  • Power button – Xbox One

If the console powers up, the reboot solution worked.

You can do this if the problem repeats itself in the future.

If it still does not start, try the steps below:

  • Make sure the outlet you are using works with other devices.
  • Confirm that the power cord is firmly connected to the wall outlet (power) and to the console.
  • Make sure that you are using the power cord that came with the Xbox One console, and that it is the correct cable.

If your console still does not turn on, it will need to be serviced by a service technician. In that case, request customer service, and open a work order.

If the power supply LED light is on, connect the power supply back to your console without turning on the console, and make sure it is turned on or off. Turn the console on and see if it starts successfully. If the LED on your power supply is turned off, it will need to be replaced.

If the power supply is still blinking, it needs to be replaced.

2. Verify that the console is correctly positioned

The console has two fans, so make sure there is nothing blocking them. Place the console on a flat, stable surface. When ventilation fans or airways are blocked, the console may overheat and will not turn on.

The console is not intended to operate in a vertical position as this affects the performance of the disk drive. Proper support is also required if you want to place it vertically.

Make sure the surface is stable, and do not place it under speakers or speakers. Make sure the space is well ventilated, clean, cold and away from direct heat sources.

3. Turn off background downloads

Downloading Xbox Live stuff can keep the console overheated, and so it ends up shutting down to save the system. To disable downloads, do the following:

  • Press the Xbox button to open the guide
  • Select system
  • Select Settings
  • Select console settings
  • Select Startup and Shutdown
  • Select Background Transfers and turn it off

4. The Xbox One Control Does Not Connect

If you can not get your Xbox One controller to connect to the console, check for some common problems.

Do you have eight controls already connected to your console? Although you probably do not use them all often, the maximum amount of controls that an Xbox One supports is eight. In this case, you can not connect more controls. Hold the Xbox button on a control and choose Turn Off Control from the menu.

Also, keep in mind that you can only pair one control with one Xbox One at a time. If you go to a friend’s house and pair their control with their Xbox, you’ll have to pair it back with yours when you get home. This also applies in the event that you connect your Xbox One control to a PC.

5. The Xbox does not turn off

If you tried to disable the console the right way and nothing changes, do the following:

  • Press the Xbox button to open the guide
  • Select system
  • Select Settings
  • Select Boot
  • Select power and power mode
  • Select Shut Down or Restart
  • Select Full Shutdown or Restart Now

You can also use the voice command if you have a Kinect and the command is in your language. To do this, say “Xbox disconnect” or, if you have Cortana, say “Hey Cortana, hang up”.

If nothing happens and the Xbox One does not turn off, press and hold the power button to force the console to shut down, and then unplug the console as a last resort. This can affect any current activity, such as losing a game or corrupting the game.

Note:  Do not disconnect the console while system updates are being installed.
