Is your phone too slow: 5 steps to fix it

They say that the life stages of a cell phone are: when they arrive in stores, after they are bought, they turn around without delay, then slow down and then slow down until we lose our patience and it is replaced. Well, still, in times of crisis, how about extending the life of your smartphone a little more?

These tips can make you go back to using your mobile phone fluently, save money for a while, and maybe even switch to a high-end handset.

1. Restart

The number one rule of computing: if in doubt, reboot. A “Crtol + Alt + Del” will not make your phone ever faster, but it’s a measure that requires no effort on your part, so it’s worth a try.

In an ideal world restarting a cell phone to make it better should not be necessary because the system would be responsible for “cleaning the house” by itself but the reality is different. Even Samsung has a feature called “Auto Reset” – a function that is within the “Device Maintenance” option – which restarts the device weekly at a user-determined time. It does not take that long, but if you find that the phone is slower than normal, restart it.

2. Uninstall unnecessary applications

It does not matter if you use them a lot or little, any application just by being there uses the valuable features of the cell phone, to a lesser or greater degree. If you have applications that you have not opened for months, uninstall them mercilessly. You can always reinstall them again later if you need to.

If your cell phone performs reasonably, remember that less is more. Uninstall any applications you do not use frequently, in an attempt to free up processor time and leave more memory and storage available for other applications that you use every day.

3. Replace your apps with the same lighter versions

The phone, old or not, is a smartphone and therefore you will want to use apps on it. The problem is that applications are getting heavier to take advantage of the increasingly powerful hardware of smartphones. But fortunately, we have more and more additional versions.

These applications are the same versions, including the same developers, but with simpler and smaller interfaces in size. This saves space and processing time. And they are easily found on Google Play under the name “Lite.” Example: Search for “Facebook lite” on Google Play.

In addition to the updates, most apps generate so-called caches, which use files that access information more quickly at next access. And forgetting to delete them when you no longer need them can take up a good amount of space, which can slow down your phone if the memory is full. Even because it is important is that you have free space for the operating system to run at full capacity, especially if the mobile phone has less than 4 GB of RAM. To be honest, the ideal is to have at least 25% of free storage space.

To make this space available, you can follow different paths. Transfer photos and video to your PC or copy those files to the cloud using Google Photos, for example, that automatically shifts photos to the cloud and then can be deleted from your phone. To see other files, we recommend Google Files , which is developed by the company itself. It is simple to use and finds duplicate files, documents, PDFs, and any others and of course asks you before deleting anything.
