Step 1
The first thing to do is the download of the DMG installation file from the site airsquirrels.com/reflector (click on the orange button ‘Try for 7 Days’ the app costs $13 but you can try it for seven days). The installation is natural in macOS: just drag the app icon to the ‘Applications’ folder, from the window that Reflector 3 opens. On the iPhone/ iPad you will not need to install any app since we will always use AirPlay functionality to stream content.
Step 2
Start Reflector 3 on the Mac and click on ‘Try Reflector 3’ the program will place an icon (a black square) on the top bar of the desktop. It is from here that you will be able to use some functions and control the connected devices. On iPhone/iPad make sure you are connected to the same network as your Mac, as this is essential for Reflector 3 to work. After that, open the iOS Control Center (swipe from the bottom or top right of iPhone X, XR or XS) and touch ‘Screen Projection’. Your computer should appear listed as an Apple TV, with the name you have given it.
Step 3
As soon as you touch the button, a window appears on the screen on your phone or tablet asking you to enter a code at the same time, a pop-up will appear on your Mac screen with the number you need to enter: to activate the system. This brings up a frame on Mac’s desktop in the shape of an iPhone (or iPad) with what you see on your device. To remove this frame from the image, right click on it and in the context menu click on ‘Frame’> ‘No Frame’. If you run the iPhone and have the screen orientation unlocked, the image on the Mac will also be horizontal, ideal for watching movies.

Even before you get to know Reflector 3 better, let’s adjust some things in the options. Click on the icon that is in the menu bar of the desktop, and then on the gear wheel, choosing Preferences next. On the ‘General’ tab, you can set whether you want the iPhone’s ‘mirrored’ screen to always be over all other windows you have open. If so, enable the ‘Always on top’ option.
In ‘Connection’ we will change two things: in the ‘AirPlay Resolution’ area choose the quality related to your iPhone or iPad model; in ‘Default Scale’ select ‘Best for Reina’ (if you have an Apple computer with this type of screen). You can also check the ‘Display Fullscreen’ option if you do not want to see the dock or the menu bar and change the ‘Fullscreen Background’ to ‘Solid Color’ in black so that the reflected image of the iPhone in Mac becomes more prominent.
Step 5
As you’ve noticed, this app has a fairly simple operating method: basically, after selecting the Mac in the iOS ‘Screen Projection’, everything you see on your handset automatically switches to the computer. For example, to watch videos, simply open them on iOS, so you can see the image on your Mac. Step 6
In addition to streaming the screen of the iPhone/iPad to a Mac, it will also be possible to record what is happening in your terminal. To do this, click on the software icon on the desktop menu bar (orange) and then on the ‘Record All’ button-this will start the screen recording right away. To stop, press ‘Stop’ in the same place. A window will appear showing the progress of the video recording and then you just have to give a name and choose a destination and save it.
Whether in streaming or recorded videos, while using the seven-day trial version, a watermark will always appear with the Reflector 3 logo.
