In recent weeks, tired of the heaviness of the Chrome internet browser, which consumed too much battery and too much RAM on my laptop, I decided to try to download Microsoft Edge and use it as an alternative to the Google browser. And, if I’m honest, I have noticed important improvements from the old to the new browser.

Contrary to the past, when Microsoft Edge was a slow internet browser, with few features and inconvenient to use, the new  Edge was completely renewed, not only graphically, but also at the “engine” level.

And the engine itself is the main novelty of the new browser from Microsoft, given that the software is now based on Chromium, the same engine that drives Google Chrome.  

Among the many advantages introduced by the Chromium engine, surely one of the most appreciated is that related to the fact of being able to use Google Chrome extensions directly on Microsoft Edge.

That’s right: if you download and use the Microsoft Edge browser, you can safely download and use the extensions found on the Chrome Web Store. A nice advantage, considering that Chrome can count on a truly absurd amount of extensions to download and install for free.

Before you can take advantage of this feature on Edge, however, you must “unlock” a feature from your browser’s Settings. And if you don’t know how, we’ll explain it below. It will take you a few simple steps to start downloading all the extensions you want on Microsoft Edge and in particular all those available on the Chrome Web Store.

Install Chrome extensions on Microsoft Edge

Before leaving, I can guarantee you that installing Chrome extensions in the Microsoft Edge browser is very simple.

You simply need to also enable the installation of extensions from third-party stores from the browser settings. And to do it you have to follow these indications.

First of all make sure you are using the latest version of Microsoft Edge, based on Chromium, which you can download from HERE.

After installing the latest version of the Microsoft browser, follow these steps:

1. Open Microsoft Edge
2. Click on the ellipses menu (…) at the top right> Extensions
3. In the side menu, checkmark Allow extensions to other stores (in English Allow extensions from other stores)
4. At the pop-up window that opens, click on Allow
5. Open the Chrome Web Store from HERE
6. Select the extension you want to install in Microsoft Edge and click on Add> Add Extension

7. In a few seconds  the extension will be downloaded to Microsoft Edge, installed in the browser and you can use it as a native extension
