As with Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp has also implemented its own version of the popular Stories. In messaging, these posts have been implemented as ‘status’, which can contain videos, photos, or GIFs, and disappear after 24 hours.
Although not as popular as in other social networks, this functionality is increasingly being used by millions of users. However, WhatsApp does not offer any kind of option to download Stories, in the hope that they will appear really ephemeral.
However, one of the wonders of the world of Android smartphones is that there is usually always a way to get around this kind of ‘problems’. This situation is no exception and there is a very simple way to be able to download any Storie that you have present in your WhatsApp.
Downloading WhatsApp Stories is much simpler than you thought!
To download Stories, you only need to use the fantastic Files Go application from Google. Of course, you can use other file managers, but this is an essential application for any Android smartphone. The only prerequisite is that the file manager you choose will give you the ability to display ‘hidden files‘.
If you do not have Google Files Go on your phone yet, you can install it for free via the Google Play Store here. You will see that this application will be useful in many more situations.
Once you have the application, the whole process is very simple. First, you’ll need to access the settings via the three horizontal dashes on the top left of the App. Then you just need to enable the Show hidden files option, and you’re ready to download WhatsApp Stories.
To access photos, videos or GIFs in Stories, you only need 4 simple clicks.
- Access to Internal Storage Memory/Internal Storage
- Open the WhatsApp folder (it should be near the bottom of the list!)
- Go to the Media folder
- Finally, you will be able to find a ‘hidden’ folder called .Statuses
It is inside this folder that you will be able to find all the Stories present in your WhatsApp. But, remember that all contents of this folder are deleted after 24 hours. So if you want to download a particular Storie, do not waste time.
To save the files, just select the ones you want to save and “copy/paste“ to another folder of your choice. As long as they are removed from them .Statuses folder, files will not be erased after 24 hours.
