How to free up storage space in Windows 10 automatically

When using Windows or any other system for some time is inevitable that you end up with many files on the machine, even more, if you count the downloads that are being made faster and faster. In Windows, for a long time, to delete temporary files from the system, it was necessary to carry out a manual cleaning, which in addition to not being practical, most of its users did not use it, resorting to third-party applications for the task.

Fortunately, in the October update to the system, Microsoft has implemented a feature that can perform cleanup on these file types automatically called the “Storage Sensor.” Here’s how to enable this function to have free disk space automatically released in Windows 10:

  1. Press the “Win + I” keys together to open the “Windows Settings” screen and enter “System”;
  2. In the menu that is on the left side of the screen, look for the item “Storage” and click on it;
  3. Under “Storage Sensor” on the right side of the screen, enable your little key.

At this time, by leaving this option enabled, Windows 10 will begin monitoring the old and temporary files to exclude them automatically. However, the process can still be improved with some defined rules to be defined by you. Look:

  1. In the same window where you were in the last step, click “Change space-free mode”;
  2. Under the “Temporary files” section, select the options that suit you.

Another important option, also present in this last window, is with the option “Free-space now”. Just as your name suggests, if you do not want to wait for the process to be done automatically, just use the “Clear Now” button.

Ready! Once you have made these settings, Windows 10 will automatically take care of cleaning your temporary files. Of course, because it is a native Windows tool developed by Microsoft, it will not always be as efficient as cleaning up by third-party programs, which need to be done manually.
