Disable the auto update of only one app on Android

We already know the reason why you came across our new guide today. Want to find out how to disable the automatic update of only one app on Android is not it? In the next lines we will explain the procedure to be performed specifically.

Premise

With this new guide today we will reveal how to automatically update only the applications you want so as not to allow those not used to occupy storage because of the updates.

The tutorial is aimed primarily at all those people who want to disable the updates of applications recognized as system apps and therefore that can not be easily removed through the Settings. The best solution, therefore, is to disable automatic updates by following a few simple steps.

How to disable the automatic update of only one app on Android

After the small premise, in the next lines we will list all the steps to follow to disable the automatic update of a single software from an Android device in a very simple.

Let’s find out what they are:

  • Grab your smartphone or tablet with Google’s mobile operating system and press the Play Store icon to open it.
  • In the next step, you need to access the page of the app you want to disable the automatic update. You can switch on by typing its name in the search field at the top (where Google Play is written ) and then press on the first appropriate result or press on the 3 dashes on the top left or swipe from the left edge to the right edge and choose My apps and games from the menu that appears. Then, press the Install tab, scroll through the list of applications that appear and press on the name of the desired one.
  • Once you have reached the dedicated page of the software, you can deactivate the automatic update by first pressing the 3 dots on the top right and then removing the check in the automatic update item.

If you want to apply this change to all the applications installed on your Android device, then carefully follow the steps that we list below:

  • From the main Play Store scree , press the 3 dashes located at the top left or swipe from the left edge to the right to access the side menu.
  • Once you have done this, click on Settings and then click on Auto-update app in the General section.
  • From the window that appears, select Don’t auto-update apps. If you want, you can also set the option over Wi-Fi only to download updates only when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and therefore without affecting the 3G/4G data connection.

What to do if the app has already been updated

If the application you want to disable the automatic update has already been updated, you can restore a previous version (and then go back) by downloading the release APK using a famous website that we have already mentioned in other guides: APKMirror. Before seeing the specific steps, it should be noted that, in order to install an APK file of an application on an Android device, it is necessary to activate the installation from unknown sources.

Once this is done, we can see the steps to follow:

  • The first step is to find the version of the app installed on your smartphone to be able to download the previous one. To do this, access the Settings from the home screen, from the drawer or by pressing the gear icon that you find by pulling down the notification curtain and locate the App or Applications item.
  • In the following screen, scroll down the list, look for the software you want to know about the installed release and tap it to access the complete information.
  • At this point, there should be a section (usually called the Details app ) containing the version number next to the wording Version.
  • Now, open the default browser on your Android smartphone or tablet and connect to the official website of APKMirror.
  • After that, press the magnifying glass at the top right and type the name of the software in the Search field.
  • From the results that appear, click on the APPS tab (under the Results for “app name” section ) and click on the application name.
  • In the next step, scroll the Description screen and stop at All versions.
  • Here, take the number next to the app name (eg Facebook 202.0.0.45.99 ) as a reference.
  • Simply press the previously published version to the one installed on your device (eg Facebook 202.0.0.40.99 ). Be careful not to choose releases whose name is alpha or beta as they are not the final ones.
  • Once correctly identified, press the small arrow pointing downwards to proceed with the download.
  • From the screen that opens, find the Download section and press on the version number.
  • Then, wait for the end of the countdown, press the Download APK button and press OK to confirm the download.
  • At the end, tap on Open from the message that appears below and then on Install to proceed with the installation.
