How to block pornographic and dangerous websites on your computer

It is no exaggeration to say that pornography occupies a considerable part of the great sphere of the world Internet. Sites of all types meet the personal tastes of each user, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The big problem with adult material available on Internet is that it is not restricted to adults. Besides being very easy to circumvent the confirmation pages, links to these sites can be found anywhere the user is browsing, in emails and also in hidden banners.

Even worse is knowing that most of these pages are loaded with malicious files, ready to damage your system and create gigantic drawbacks. Viruses, trojans and other malware are recurring characters on pornographic and erotic content sites.

If you want to prevent other users of your computer from accessing such content, a very good tip that does not require software installation is to set up a secure DNS. In this article, we bring Family Shield, a tool provided by Open DNS that puts your computer on a DNS server that restricts access and ensures the safety of your family.

Learning to configure

To configure the FamilyShield DNS server you must follow some very simple but different steps for each operating system found. Check out to change the settings of your computer:

Windows XP

Access the Start Menu, then click on the “Control Panel” icon and then select the “Network Connections”. Right-click on the active connection and then on the “Properties” option.

Select “Internet Protocol (TCP / IP)” and click “Properties” again. In the window that will open, select the “Use the following DNS server addresses” option and enter the addresses:

  • Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.123

Apply the modifications and that’s it. You are already protected.

Windows 7 / Vista / Windows 8 / Windows 10

For all these versions of Microsoft OS, the settings to be made are the same. Access the “Control Panel” in the Start Menu and then click on “View status and network tasks”. Next to “Local Connection”, click “View Status” and then “Properties”.

Select “TCP / IP Protocol Version 4” and click “Properties” again. In the window that will open, select the “Use the following DNS server addresses” option and enter the addresses:

  • Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.123
  • Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.123

Once you apply the settings, you’re already restricting your computer’s access to pornographic pages.

Linux (Distro: Ubuntu)

From the Operating System desktop, right-click on the network icon and then on the “Edit Connections” option. Select the connection used and click again on the “Edit” button. Choose the “IPv4 Settings” tab. In the DNS servers text box, enter the addresses: 208.67.222.123, 208.67.220.123. Click “OK” and restart your system.

OS X (from the Leopard version)
