How to block app notifications while playing on your phone

While your phone is in use, you should receive notifications from multiple apps, which even when they are not open continue to run in the background. While it’s helpful to keep getting the information from your top programs while you’re playing on your device, notifications cause some discomfort, as they can disrupt viewing of something important within the game.

By default, Android does not have a detection mode when in-game to stop receiving notifications only at that time, but luckily that’s a problem that can be circumvented. Here’s how to make Android not issue notifications while you’re playing on your phone.

As stated above, the following process is not native to Android and requires the installation of third-party applications. Anyway, the procedure below is completely reversible, being necessary to uninstall only the program used for Android back to the previous configuration.

How to make Android not issue notifications while you’re playing

The method shown below needs to be configured by applications, that is, every time you install or want to include a game, you need to make a small change to the rule that will be created. Here’s how to proceed:

  1. Go to Google Play and download the MacroDroid application ;
  2. When opening the application for the first time, continue with the explanation of its operation;
  3. On your home screen, click “Add macro”, and in applications, select the “Open / close application” option;
  4. Select the “Open app” option and check the games where you do not want notifications;
  5. When you have selected the games, click “Ok” and you will receive another message. Again, click “Ok” and grant the required permission as shown in the image below;
  6. Back to the application, enter the “Actions” tab and go to “Volume”;
  7. Then click on “Priority Mode / Do Not Disturb” and grant one more permission for the program to work;
  8. Back to the application, click “Priority Mode / Do Not Disturb” again and select the “Block All” option or, if you prefer, “Allow Priority Notifications”;
  9. Click on the “Confirm” icon and give a name for the “macro” created.

At this time, when opening the game on Android, you should no longer receive notifications, but it is necessary to do one more step so that they return to normal when the game is closed. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open MacroDroid one more time and click “Add Macro”;
    2. Under “Triggers,” click “Applications” and go to “Open / Close Application”;
    3. Select the “Closed app” option and re-check the same games as you had previously selected;
    4. Now enter “Actions” and go to “Volume”;
    5. Select the “Priority Mode / Do Not Disturb” option and check “All”;
    6. Click the “Confirm” button and name the new “macro”.

Ready! Now whenever you open a game from the created list, you will no longer be bothered by notifications. If you have a game that has been left out of the process, macros can be edited within MacroDroid, avoiding having to perform the whole process manually again.
